The Force Awakens was without-a-doubt a successful film. Even now it’s still making records. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t start getting excited for Episode 8. Check out the rest of the story below for the casting and production announcement.
Monday morning the good folks at StarWars.com posted an announcement stating that the film is indeed filming and started today February 15th. The announcement also gave some details on who would be returning for the yet to be titled Episode 8 along with this video.
Some people were confused as some sites had a cast list including Harrison Ford, but his name is not on this list. I really doubt that his character is coming back after the way his story ended.
Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
We have known for a while that Del Toro was cast, but this is the first I’ve heard of Laura Dern being in this film. Also a few sites had posted a cast lists with Harrison Ford’s name attached. I’m pretty sure that we won’t be seeing Han Solo again. The ending of his journey was fairly concrete in The Force Awakens.
This is very exciting! If Lucasfilm is willing to put new footage out there now, a whole 668 days (yes, I am counting) before it comes out, I would expect them to be a little less conservative with their campaign going forward. But you never know. Star Wars has always been full of secrets.
